Greenhouse & Tree Planting

The overall initiative is to use potting and planting cypress as an educational outreach tool to educate people about the importance wetlands serve by improving habitat value, helping reduce erosion, and providing storm surge attenuation.  Since the first bare root was potted into 1-gallon container, the project continues to gain momentum with the reception of an EPA grant, which allowed repairs to the water irrigation monitoring system, and installation of wooden pens to contain water inside the Parkways greenhouse.  In addition, two (2) 46’ x 6.5’ concrete block pens containing pond liners were constructed outside, along with a new irrigation monitoring system to further enhance growth of cypress, and later to be used as well for growing other types of wetland vegetation.
