Council District 5
Jennifer Van Vrancken feels blessed to have a chance every day to improve the place we call home. With a work ethic she learned from her family's hospitality business, she gives it a 110%!
Her efforts earned her accolades like the Alliance for Good Government "Legislator of the Year", the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality "Environmental Leadership Program Recognition", and the Louisiana Garden Club Federation "Cleanest City" Award for Metairie for the first time ever!
She is transformative. Arming neighborhoods to better battle crime by establishing a matching grant program so civic groups could purchase crime cameras. Transforming a tired Old Metairie Library branch into a modern, inviting, innovative space for learning and gathering. Creating new outdoor greenspaces at Bayou Metairie Park, Canal Street Linear Park and master planning the 40 acres of Bucktown Harbor Park and Marina. Fiscally conservative, Jennifer aggressively seeks ways to stretch $1 into 2.
Prior to holding office, Jennifer served as COO for Jefferson Parish overseeing nearly 40 departments and half a billion dollar budget. Before public service, Jennifer worked as an award winning television journalist. She earned her undergraduate and law degrees from Tulane and remains licensed to practice law in Louisiana.
Jennifer is blissfully married to President - Elect of the Louisiana Bar Association, Stephen Dwyer. The two enjoy traveling and preparing "Sunday Dinner" where Stephen cooks up their Sicilian favorites and Jennifer serves as pot-washer-in-chief and host to the crowd of 5 kids and 6 precious grandkids.
