THREE LOCAL POETS TO READ AT OLD METAIRIE LIBRARY

JEFFERSON, LA – Three local poets – Valentine Pierce, Ingrid Green and Phyllis Parun – will discuss poetry and their latest works at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 15, at the Old Metairie Library, 2350 Metairie Road.

Ingrid Green

Ingrid Green Adams is a 1983 magna cum laude graduate of Southern University at New Orleans. She retired from the Department of Homeland Security as an Intelligence Research Specialist in 2003. She is the owner of Green’s Consulting Co. specializing in motivational speaking and consultation. She says she has a passion for the written word, resulting in 19 books of inspirational poetry. She is a grant recipient of Poets & Writers Magazine.

Phyllis Parun

Phyllis Parun is a self-styled “creative,” always on a path of self-discovery whether creating art, writing essays on healthy living, philosophy or poetry. She says she goes fearlessly into her own personal experience as she has lived it. Her book, New Orleans Born, is her poetic homage to New Orleans 1940-50s. She continues her journey through prose, letters and Haiku. Deeply honest, this author is an example of Cocteau's dictum that "writing should be an act of love otherwise its nothing but handwriting."

Valentine Pierce

Valentine Pierce is a graphic designer, journalist and photographer and spends most of her free time performing or creating. Her books include: Nasty Women Poets Anthology (2018); Mending for Memory Anthology (2017); Geometry of the Heart (2007). Her work has appeared in the following anthologies: Bayou Magazine; New Orleans: What Can't Be Lost; Mapleleaf Rag IV; On the Fourth Day; Jimmy's Shoes; Discovery; Gangrene Death; Hurricane Without a Name; Rivers of My Soul; and Dragons in the City.
