THEATRICAL DIRECTOR AND PRODUCER TO DISCUSS NEW BOOK ABOUT TENNESSEE WILLIAMS AT EAST BANK REGIONAL LIBRARY

JEFFERSON, LA – Augustin J. Correro, MFA, a theatrical director, producer and educator based in New Orleans, will discuss his book Tennessee Williams 101, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at the East Bank Regional Library (4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie, LA 70001).

This event is free of charge and is open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literary Festival which occurs March 20-24, 2024 at the Hotel Monteleone.

Adapted and expanded from the popular lecture created by Correro for the annual Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literary Festival, this book is full of fascinating behind-the-curtain tidbits about the playwright along with analyses of characters he created and real-life people he moved among. These topics and more are doled out generously in this informative and entertaining look at a cultural icon.

“Like an alchemist, Tennessee Williams would dip his pen in reality and make precious, magical fiction out of it,” Correro says. “This journey through his life focuses on the influence of specific people and places on selected works.”

Correro is a founding co-arrtistic director of the Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans and served as a director for many of its productions including The Glass Menagerie, Kingdom of Earth, Suddenly Last Summer, Camino Real, and The Rose Tattoo. He earned his M.F.A. in Theatre Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University and his B.A. in Theatre from Mississippi University for Women.

This event is co-sponsored by the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival, an annual five-day literary festival in the city of New Orleans. The festival is dedicated to the Pulitzer Prize-winning American playwright Tennessee Williams. Every year, it features several events related to the long career of Williams, as well as writing workshops, panel discussions, literary readings, stage performances, a book fair, music, writing contests, and other events related to American literature, poetry, drama, opera, film, photography, art, history, culture, and cooking. The signature event is the Stella and Stanley Shouting Contest that closes the festival.
