FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ST. CHARLES PARISH AND JEFFERSON PARISH HWY 90 CLEAN TO TAKE PLACE

JEFFERSON, LA – St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell and Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng are teaming up to clean up litter along Hwy 90, a highly traveled corridor between the parishes. On Tuesday, February 23, 2021 beginning at 9:00 a.m., staff from each parish, council members, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office will work to remove trash from the area.

“Keeping our parish clean and free of litter is important to our environment as well as our economy and drainage infrastructure. The appearance of our parish will leave a lasting impression on all those who live, work and play in St. Charles Parish,” said St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell.

Litter negatively affects the environment and can prevent water from properly draining if it enters drainage conveyance systems, leading to flooding issues.

“Today is an important day as we join forces with St. Charles Parish to pick up litter along Hwy 90. We hope this effort encourages all residents of both parishes to keep this location and all areas throughout both Jefferson Parish and St. Charles Parish clean,” said Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng.

Supplies to remove litter are being donated, and Pelican Waste will pick up all trash bags from the event.

On March 6, St. Charles Parish will host its annual Trash Bash event, which encourages residents throughout the parish to participate in a day of litter removal. To learn more about the event, visit www.stcharlesparish-la.gov/trashbash.
