NEWS RELEASE

JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA

November 2, 2022
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

REAL-TIME RAILROAD CROSSING CAMERAS NOW LIVE
AT SEVEN SITES ACROSS JEFFERSON PARISH

JEFFERSON, LAStarting today, motorists traveling through Jefferson Parish can check on the status of seven railroad crossings located on both the East Bank and West Bank. Cameras are now live at Little Farms, Central Avenue, Metairie Road, George Street, Willswood Lane, Live Oak Boulevard, and Avondale Garden Road.

The real-time cameras will allow motorists to see if a train is crossing or stopped so that they can plan their route accordingly. The Jefferson Parish Information Technology Department, Traffic Engineering, and SCADA worked with various councilmembers on this initiative in an effort to help residents avoid any delays due to trains crossing during their commute.

“My office has been working diligently to get real-time cameras installed at some of the busiest railroad crossings in District 2,” said Jefferson Parish Councilman Deano Bonano (District 2). “In addition to Little Farms, Central Avenue is now live. Hopefully this will allow drivers to divert to a different route and not be delayed by trains.”

“The addition of the railroad crossing cameras will help drivers on the West Bank avoid what can be lengthy delays caused by trains,” said Jefferson Parish Councilman Byron Lee (District 3). “I recommend that those needing to cross the tracks check out the cameras ahead of time and plan their routes accordingly.”

“We’re excited that those passing through the Metairie Road crossing are now able to check on potential delays before going out,” said Jefferson Parish Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken (District 5). “In addition to the cameras, a new predictive app called Move Metairie is in its final phase of testing. The app will provide an estimated arrival time for a train at the Metairie Road crossing. These resources will be helpful for anyone who lives or commutes to and from the area.”
