NEWS RELEASE

JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA

November 4, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF UNINCORPORATED
JEFFERSON PARISH AND THE TOWN OF JEAN LAFITTE:

Curbside Storm Debris Collection Scheduled to Begin on Friday

JEFFERSON, LA – Starting Friday, November 6, 2020, DRC Emergency Services will begin collecting storm related debris placed between the sidewalk and the street in unincorporated Jefferson Parish and in the Town of Jean Lafitte.

Crews will make one pass in each neighborhood and anticipate reaching the majority of streets by Friday, November 13, 2020. A second and final pass will follow thereafter to collect any remaining storm debris. The Parish will provide residents with an announcement prior to the final collection pass.

For the purposes of the debris removal program, storm debris consists of the following material generated as a result of Hurricane Zeta:

  • Tree Debris – piles of tree branches, tree limbs and trunks
  • Construction and Demolition Debris – building materials, roofing shingles and fence boards
  • Appliances and White Goods – refrigerators and freezers

Residents are strongly urged to organize their storm debris into different piles by debris type to support an efficient collection process. In order to satisfy FEMA regulatory requirements, vegetative waste must be processed differently from other material. Residents should place bagged waste in or near their tipper cart as this will be collected separately from other storm debris.

Residents should not place storm debris for collection on or near mailboxes, fire hydrants, under low hanging wires or tree branches, or behind park vehicles as debris trucks cannot access these locations.
