NEWS RELEASE

JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA

April 27, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MOBILE COVID-19 TESTING AVAILABLE IN JEFFERSON PARISH
AT THE MARRERO COMMUNITY CENTER, TUESDAY, APRIL 28 – FRIDAY, MAY 1

JEFFERSON, LA – Jefferson Parish, in partnership with the LCMC Health, the City of New Orleans Health Department and the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC), will conduct mobile testing for COVID-19 at the Marrero Community Center, 1861 Ames Blvd. Marrero, LA 70072. The testing site will launch on Tuesday, April 28 at 9 a.m. Testing will continue Wednesday, April 29 – Friday, May 1, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until daily maximum of 250 tests is reached.

“We are thrilled to partner with LCMC Health, the New Orleans Health Department and LSUHSC on this initiative,” said Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng. “We also want to thank our Jefferson Parish Emergency Management Department, our Jefferson Parish General Services Department and JPSO for their hard work setting up this community testing site."

The mobile campaign was developed to bring walk-up testing to neighborhoods that have been heavily affected by COVID-19, with the goal of identifying early cases. Individuals 18 years of age or older who have symptoms or believe he or she may have been recently exposed to COVID-19 are encouraged to get tested. Results are expected to be online or delivered within two to three days. While onsite, residents will receive access to additional resources and free essentials donated by the Mutter Family of Doerr Furniture, G & C Auto, and many more.

According to Councilman Byron Lee, “Having a mobile testing site stationed in Marrero is essential and will be transformative in our efforts to reduce the spread amongst the black and brown community, ensuring they receive readily accessible access to testing and the education and resources needed whether they test positive or have tested negative but live with someone who has tested positive. This increased testing in hard-hit areas is crucial as the Parish evaluates safely reopening.
