November 20, 2019 METAIRIE ROAD LIBRARY GRAND REOPENING

| Metairie, LA - Please join Councilwoman Jennifer Van Vrancken, President Michael S. Yenni, Library Director Marylyn Haddican and Jefferson Parish Officials for a celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 4:00pm to reopen the newly renovated Metairie Road Library, located at 2350 Metairie Road. The Metairie Road Library is an existing 10,000 square foot facility. The newly renovated space includes a complete interior revamp to the book stacks, children’s area, meeting rooms and administrative offices. Other improvements include new exterior windows to replace the existing glass block windows, as well as opening up the back of the library to look onto and enter the little-known pocket park. Seating, permeable pavers and enhanced landscaping added to the park highlights the beauty of the historic Glendale Oak, which estimates to be more than a century old. The west side of the building received new parking spaces and a new ADA accessible ramp. “Modern libraries are community gathering places. The new renovations add whimsy to the children’s area to excite young readers, quiet study rooms for older students to concentrate and a peaceful park for seniors to enjoy their favorite book under the shade of an oak,” said Councilwoman Van Vrancken. “We want our libraries to remain current in serving the needs of our community.” Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects designed the architectural improvements. Construction and design engineering was completed by Kyle and Associates and GVA Engineering, LLC. The contractor was Construction Masters, Inc. The total project cost is approximately $1,471,844, utilizing Library millage funds. ### |
