LOVE, HATE AND THE FIVE SENSES ARE TOPICS OF DISCUSSION AT EAST BANK REGIONAL LIBRARY SATURDAY WRITERS' CLINIC

JEFFERSON, LA – Allison Alsup and Brad Richard make presentations at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 20 at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie. 

Allison Alsup presents “When Love & Hate Collide: The Intersection of Conflict and Character,” at 9:30 a.m. Alsup’s short fiction has won multiple contests and appears, among other places, in the 2014 O’Henry Prize Stories and the U.K.‘s 2018 Manchester Fiction Prize shortlist. Her non-fiction appeared in Best Food Writing 2015.

Brad Richard presents “Bringing Your Scenes to Life Using the Five Senses,” at 11 a.m. He is the author of four books of poems (Habitations, Motion Studies, Butcher’s Sugar, Parasite Kingdom) and three chapbooks (The Men in the Dark, Curtain Optional, Larval Songs]. He has published poems and reviews in many journals, including Green Mountains Review, New Orleans Review, Plume, Guernica, American Letters & Commentary, Prairie Schooner, The Iowa Review and Massachusetts Review.

Both Alsup and Richard teach classes at the New Orleans Writers Workshop. NOWW has held one-day, two-day, four-week, and nine-week classes at the New Orleans Museum of Art, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, A Studio in the Woods, and the Southern Hotel, among other venues, in addition to free workshops at public libraries and in nonprofit or congregate settings, including Orleans Parish Prison, Project Lazarus, and 826 New Orleans.

The Saturday Writers’ Clinic is a monthly program for writers that occurs at the East Bank Regional Library. It consists of two separate sessions that focus on some aspect of writers’ craft.
