LECTURE AT EAST BANK REGIONAL LIBRARY TO FOCUS ON HAUNTED HISTORY OF NEW ORLEANS
JEFFERSON, LA – David Laville of the New Orleans Ghost Hunters will discuss the haunted history of New Orleans — including new information about the vampires of the city — at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023 at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie.
This event is free of charge and is open to the public. Registration is not required.
Laville’s lecture will focus on the city’s status as one of the most haunted cities in America, and why so many spirits seem attracted to the local environment, including:
Catastrophe – One of the biggest reasons for hauntings are catastrophes. New Orleans has had a regular schedule of catastrophic events such as hurricanes, major fires, epidemics and wars that take a lot of people abruptly to the other side, though some didn’t quite make it all the way over.
Violence – Since the city’s founding in 1718, there have been hundreds of thousands of acts of violence that create a huge amount of spirits that roam the streets. (For example, Jackson Square was the site of public hangings and the area behind St. Louis Cathedral was the site of numerous duels as well as slave auctions.)
Locations – Haunted locations in the heart of the French Quarter, their histories and why these histories may be behind the haunted stories.
LaVille says he began to experience paranormal activity at a young age which eventually led to his cofounding of the New Orleans Ghost Hunters. With dozens of residential and numerous historical site investigations on his resume he’s also hosted two radio shows, one local and another national on internet radio where the haunted history and locations of New Orleans are often discussed. He and the New Orleans Ghost Hunters have appeared on television shows, have been written about in local papers and are often invited to give panels at sci-fi conventions. He is a licensed New Orleans tour guide specializing in haunted tours of the French Quarter.
