December 3, 2019 LAFRENIERE PARK RECEIVES NEW TRASH CANS THANKS TO KEEP LOUISIANA BEAUTIFUL GRANT

| Jefferson, LA – Jefferson Parish’s Lafreniere Park received five new decorative trash cans provided by Keep Jefferson Beautiful in an effort to decrease litter throughout areas of the park. Funding for the cans was procured through a Trash Receptacle Mini Grant Program sponsored by Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs submitted the grant proposal to replace old, broken and unsightly receptacles around the park pavilion and other surrounding blighted bins. Since 2004, Keep Louisiana Beautiful has awarded over $3.4 million in grants to local communities in the areas of litter abatement, waste reduction, recycling, and environmental education. Keep Jefferson Parish Beautiful is excited to bring this grant to a community space that is most visited by Jefferson Parish residents. The Trash Receptacle Mini Grant Program was developed to increase the number of trash receptacles in Keep Louisiana Beautiful communities. The program assists Keep Louisiana Beautiful affiliates by providing attractive, durable, and high-quality trash receptacles. Littering rates decrease as the convenience of using a proper receptacle increases: “By increasing the number of receptacles available, littering can be greatly reduced. This was the basis of Keep Louisiana Beautiful creating a new grant to fund trash receptacles placed in public spaces. We are thrilled to fund local initiatives and support those who are working for a cleaner and more beautiful Louisiana through all of our grant opportunities,” said Susan Russell, Executive Director of Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
