December 3, 2019 JEFFERSON TRANSIT AWARDED MILLIONS TO BUILD NEW OPERATIONS FACILITY

| Jefferson, LA – Jefferson Transit (JeT) has been awarded $4.3 million to upgrade its current facility on David Drive through the federal Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program. JeT will build a new, modern operations facility that meets ADA compliance and accommodates critical safety, dispatch and training functions. “Our current building does not operate well as a transit operations facility and has been long overdue for improvements,” said Sharon Leader, Director of Transit. “The new facility will be easier to find, be inviting to the public and to visitors who want to obtain monthly passes, and will allow for a better working space for our drivers.” “We are excited to see these federal funds being awarded in Jefferson Parish for public transportation which is important to not only our area, but the entire region,” said President Michael Yenni. “I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize Sharon Leader and all of her hard work to ensure the Jefferson Parish is getting its fair share of funding and making strides to ensure Jefferson Transit is headed towards growth and progress.” The new facility will be approximately 15,000 square feet and will have ample meeting space, new efficient LED lighting, modern HVAC system as well as a new ventilation system and carbon monoxide system. The facility also aims to provide a better work environment with the addition of a break room and increased space allowing dispatchers to more efficiently match operators and routes improving on-time performance and rider experience. ### |
