JEFFERSON PARISH TO PROVIDE STUDENT CAMP FOR CHILDREN ENROLLED IN VIRTUAL/HYBRID CLASSES
JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation Department (JPRD) will host Student Camp for children (K-12) enrolled in virtual/hybrid schooling. Student Camp will be held Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Miley Playground on the east bank of Jefferson Parish and Belle Terre Playground on the west bank of Jefferson Parish. It will cost $75 per child per week, which includes before and after care. Parents must provide snacks, drinks and lunches daily; and students will be required to bring their own computer, cord, headset and other needed materials for learning. All will be required to be masked at all times with the exception of lunchtime.
According to JPRD Director Mario Bazile, “The goal of our Student Camp is to provide a safe physical location with internet access for students to do their virtual work. Our Student Camp facilitators’ job is to keep children safe and engaged during their digital learning day. Our facilitators will not be performing in the role of educators. We look forward to a safe and successful Student Camp this Fall!”
Student Camp starts on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Registration is now open through September 18, or when all spots are filled. Spots are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents should register their children by phone. Call the East Bank Student Camp Coordinator Rebecca Bourgeois at 504-736-6992 to register for Student Camp at Miley Playground or the West Bank Student Camp Coordinator Daisey Acosta at 504-349-5032 to register for Student Camp at Belle Terre Playground.
