JEFFERSON PARISH OFFICES CLOSED ON MONDAY, JANUARY 1, 2024 IN OBSERVANCE OF THE NEW YEAR HOLIDAY

No garbage collection on Monday, Jan. 1; short gap in service for curbside recycling

JEFFERSON, LA – All Jefferson Parish Government offices will be closed on Monday, January 1, 2024 in observance of the New Year holiday. See below for additional closure information per department:

GARBAGE AND RECYCLING
There will be no curbside garbage collection on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024 for residents of Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte. There will be no make-up day for the missed garbage collection on New Year’s Day; the next collection day for those scheduled to have garbage pick-up on Mondays will be Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024. The Jefferson Parish Landfill will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1 and will reopen at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

As a reminder, a short gap in service is anticipated while a new contract with Ramelli Waste is officially approved by the Parish Council, which is anticipated to take place in January, 2024. Customers are advised to retain and use their current 18-gallon recycling bin until further instruction is provided. Customers will not see a charge for curbside recycling service on their Jefferson Parish utility bills until service resumes.

If your pickup day is:

  • Friday, the last day for curbside recycling will be Friday, Dec. 29, 2023
  • Saturday, the last day for curbside recycling will be Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023

JEFFERSON PARISH PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT (JPRD)
All Jefferson Parish Parks & Recreation (JPRD) classes and programs (not including Lafreniere Park, Parc des Familles and some scheduled JPRD games) will be closed on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. JPRD will resume operations on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Please note: The last day for Christmas in the Park at Lafreniere Park will be Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023. Visit www.JPRD.com for more information.

LIBRARY
All Jefferson Parish libraries will be closed on Sunday, Dec. 31 and Monday, Jan. 1. All libraries will reopen for normal operations on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

JEFFERSON PARISH PROTECTION & ANIMAL WELFARE SERVICES (JPAWS)
The Jefferson Parish Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1 and will reopen for normal operations on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

TRANSIT
Jefferson Parish Transit will be running a Saturday holiday schedule on Monday, Jan. 1 and will resume normal services on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Visit www.JPTransit.org for more information.

JEFFERSON PARISH AMERICAN JOB CENTERS
The East Bank American Job Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1 and Tuesday, Jan. 2. The West Bank American Job Center will be closed only on Monday, Jan. 1 and will reopen to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 2. For unemployment services, residents can call 1-866-783-5567.

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
Residents of Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte are reminded to recycle their Christmas trees in an effort to help fight coastal erosion. All Christmas trees must be placed curbside starting Wednesday, Jan. 10 and will be collected on one of the following garbage pickup dates: Thursday, Jan. 11, Friday, Jan. 12 or Saturday, Jan. 13. To efficiently help collect Christmas trees, fill out the Christmas Tree Pickup Form. Please note, no flocked, artificial or painted trees will be accepted and residents must take off all lights, garlands, ornaments, tree stands and plastic bags.
