JEFFERSON PARISH HOSTS PUBLIC MEETING TO UNVEIL FINAL DRAFT OF HOPE HAVEN MASTER PLAN

JEFFERSON, LA – Jefferson Parish, with the assistance of architects from Metairie-based NY & Associates, Inc., a multi-disciplinary firm that provides engineering, architecture, planning, and program and project management services, is hosting a public meeting to unveil and solicit input on the final draft of the Hope Haven Master Plan.

The meeting will take on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at the PACE Adult Day Center, 1131 Barataria Blvd., Marrero, LA 70072. The meeting will also be streamed live on JPTV (Channel 6 on COX and Channel 99 on AT&T Uverse), the Jefferson Parish website, www.jeffparish.tv/live, and on the Jefferson Parish Facebook page, www.facebook.com/JeffersonParishGov.

The historic Hope Haven campus was built in the 1920s by the Archdiocese of New Orleans to serve as an orphanage for young boys. The site was closed in the 1990s, and has been in a state of deterioration for almost 20 years. In 2016, Jefferson Parish signed a 99-year lease with the Archdiocese for the west side of the campus, and the State of Louisiana has provided over $5 million in funding to stabilize the existing buildings. The parish acquired the adjacent property and is nearing completion of an exercise and walking trail.

State funding has also been provided to design phase II of the walking trail, which will encompass the perimeter of the entire campus. Funding has also been provided to build a festival park on the grounds, which is currently under design. The Parish, as well as state leaders such as Sen. Pat Connick, R-Marrero, envision the Hope Haven site as a future health and fitness center on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish.

“We’re excited about the possibility of transforming and putting back into use this historic site for the citizens of Jefferson Parish,” said Councilman Deano Bonano (District 2). “We want to thank Sen. Connick for his commitment to bringing state funding to help restore Hope Haven, which will hopefully improve the health, culture and quality of life of those on the West Bank and in the region.”

Jefferson Parish architects and engineers from NY & Associates will provide an electronic presentation on the master plan, which will detail all proposed uses for the Hope Haven site. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the meeting and provide input on the final draft of the master plan. After the meeting, the presentation will be available at www.jeffparish.net.
