Jefferson Parish Hosts Public Meeting on FEMA-Approved Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan

Agenda Includes Introduction to the Jefferson Parish Green Infrastructure Plan – A Sustainable Strategy for Balancing Water

JEFFERSON, LA – Jefferson Parish and its incorporated municipalities (Grand Isle, Gretna, Harahan, Jean Lafitte, Kenner, and Westwego) have worked together to update the Parish's multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan which is required by FEMA every five years. The purpose of the plan is to provide a framework for community officials to use for reducing vulnerability to natural hazards such as flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes.

Two final public meetings to present the Plan Update prior to official adoption are scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2020 at the East Bank Regional Library located at 4747 West Napoleon Ave, Metairie, LA 70001 at 6:00 PM and Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the West Bank Regional Library located at 2751 Manhattan Blvd, Harvey, LA 70058 at 6:00 PM. The public is invited to attend to get an overview of the plan document and some of the highlights of the plan. The presentation starts at 6:00 PM and discussion will conclude at 7:00 PM.

From 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM the public also will have the opportunity to learn about Jefferson Parish’s continuing efforts to manage rainwater as a more resilient community. The Parish aims to develop standards for green infrastructure and low-impact development. The brief meeting will introduce the public to these concepts and the process for developing and adopting any future standards.
