JEFFERSON PARISH GOVERNMENT RESPONDS TO HURRICANE ZETA

All Jefferson Parish Government Buildings Closed on Friday, October 30, 2020

JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Administration, along with the Emergency Management and Public Works Departments, continue to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane Zeta. The following are updates as of Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 8 p.m.:

Post-Storm Notice to the Public:

Due to widespread power outages throughout our area, which has put a strain on the process of powering of our sewerage systems, Jefferson Parish residents are asked to limit all non-essential sewer services as much as possible during this time - this includes washing clothes, cleaning dishes and showering.

Government Closures:

All Jefferson Parish buildings will close on Friday, October 30, 2020 due to the continued response to Hurricane Zeta. This includes the Joseph S. Yenni Building, the General Government Building, Jefferson Parish Credit Union, Jefferson Parish libraries, Jefferson Parish Head Start Centers and all Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation activities. The Bonnabel Boat launch, Bucktown Harbor Marina and Lafreniere Park will also be closed. All Parish bids and RFPs due on Friday, October 30, 2020 will also be rescheduled.

Garbage and Recycling Collection:

Curbside garbage and recycling collection will continue on its regular schedule on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31, 2020. Multiple passes will be made through the Parish in the coming weeks to remove storm related debris. Every effort will be made to remove household garbage and storm related debris from Jefferson Parish streets and neighborhoods as quickly as possible. However, delays are anticipated due to downed power lines and heavier volumes as a result of the storm.

For curbside collection, all leaves, twigs and other small yard debris must be bagged in heavy duty bags for collection. Spoiled food must also be bagged and placed in your Parish issued garbage can for curbside collection. Fallen tree branches should be separated from bagged debris and neatly stacked at the curb. Storm debris cannot be picked up from private property. Residents should place debris as close to the roadside as possible without placing it in the roadway, ditches or in front of storm drains and/or catch basins. Additionally, please do not place debris on or near fire hydrants.

Jefferson Transit Service:

Jefferson Transit will resume service tomorrow, Friday, October 30, 2020 at 6 a.m., pending an assessment of road and signal light status.

COVID-19 Testing:

The Alario Center drive-thru COVID-19 testing site is closed on Friday, October 30, 2020. Scheduled mobile testing at Johnny Bright Playground in Metairie tomorrow is also canceled.
