JEFFERSON PARISH DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS TO BE
RECOGNIZED AT WEFTEC 2022 CONFERENCE FOR TWO BRONZE AWARDS

JEFFERSON, LAThe Jefferson Parish Department of Environmental Affairs has been selected as a bronze winner in two separate categories, Program Management and Innovation, under the WEF National Municipal Stormwater and Green Infrastructure Awards Program, and will be recognized on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Stormwater Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) theatre during the WEFTEC 2022 conference.

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is a global not-for-profit technical and educational organization embodied of 30,000 individual members and 75 affiliated Member Associations, all of which represents water quality professionals around the world to protect public health and the environment. As a global water sector leader, the mission is to connect water professionals, enrich the expertise of water professionals, increase the awareness of the impact and value of water, and provide a platform for water sector innovation.

Led by the WEF, the National Municipal Stormwater and Green Infrastructure Awards program was developed through a cooperative agreement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with the objective of recognizing high-performing, regulated, municipal separate-storm-sewer systems (MS4s) and to inspire leaders to exceed requirements by using innovative and cost-effective approaches.

Many of the WEF’s utility members and Stormwater professionals will be addressing stormwater and wet weather issues during the WEFTEC 2022 conference. “To remain on top of this challenge, there needs to be opportunities to exchange best practices and learn about cutting-edge approaches for treatment, management, and financing,” said WEF Executive Director Walt Marlowe. “With EPA’s support, WEF is able to provide such an opportunity that not only recognizes the success of Stormwater professionals, but encourages the new ideas, programs and leadership that is needed for tackling the growing demands that Stormwater is placing on our communities.”

On behalf of Jefferson Parish, Storm Water Management Supervisor Sami Khalil, will be speaking at the SDG theatre during the WEFTEC 2022 conference about the uniqueness and challenges that Jefferson Parish faces with managing stormwater.
