FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JEFFERSON PARISH COMMUNITY CENTERS

REMAIN OPEN FOR CURBSIDE FOOD DISTRIBUTION

JEFFERSON, LA – Community centers in Jefferson Parish continue to distribute food curbside to preregistered residents. Eligible residents can also register onsite at the time of distribution if they have not previously received services. The following changes are being made due to staffing shortages and to minimize public contact:

  • All centers will start distributing food at 2:00 p.m. to allow time for the arrival of the truck and unpacking of food. There is to be no public contact before this time.
  • Bridge City Community Center distribution services are suspended until further notice. Residents should go to the J.C. Simmons Community Center during the regularly scheduled pickup days on the first and third Mondays of the month.

Head Start food distribution is also suspended until further notice. Any parent in need of food can contact the local community center in their area. Second Harvest Food Bank will be increasing deliveries to accommodate for potential new families. Residents can also call 2-1-1 and ask about “emergency food assistance” to receive more information, find out where a food pantry may be located in their community, and sign up for services. For more information visit www.no-hunger.org/covid-19/.

For a list of community centers and the regular schedule for food distribution visit www.jeffparish.net or contact the Jefferson Community Action Programs (JeffCAP) offices at 736-6900.

Residents can also receive regular updates by following the Parish on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@JeffParishGov).
