HIMELSTEIN AND SHANNON TO DISCUSS THE WORLD OF SELF-PUBLISHING AT EAST BANK REGIONAL LIBRARY

JEFFERSON, LA – Chelsey K. Shannon and Abram Shalom Himelstein of the University of New Orleans Press will discuss all facets of self-publishing at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 11, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Ave., Metairie.

This event is free of charge and open to the public.

Both Himelstein and Shannon got their starts in the world of self-publishing and have remained practitioners even as they guide the University of New Orleans Press in their day jobs. This program will introduce the basic process of publishing one's own work as well as the significance of self-publication for writers, communities, and literary culture at large.

Abram Shalom Himelstein is the editor-in-chief at the University of New Orleans Press. He has written for the Daily Racing Form, The Houston Chronicle, and Next City. He is the author of What the Hell Am I Doing Here? and co-author of Tales of a Punk Rock Nothing. He is currently finishing his new zine - Let Us Die in New Ways: The Gospel According to Moses. 

Chelsey K. Shannon is a writer and editor at the University of New Orleans Press. She holds an M.F.A. from the UNO Creative Writing Workshop. Most recently, she self-published the zine Trace-Chasing: Race, Place, Time & Emmett Till. She is currently at work on a memoir about race, femininity and her obsession with Truman Capote.

Founded in 2003, the University of New Orleans Press is a nonprofit book publisher that focuses on the cultural tradition of New Orleans and its surrounding region. The staff seeks literature inspired by this tradition, as well as work that contributes to the intellectual and aesthetic life of academic and general audiences everywhere.
