NEWS RELEASE

JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA

June 8, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF UNINCORPORATED JEFFERSON PARISH AND THE TOWN OF JEAN LAFITTE:

GARBAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION WILL RESUME AS REGULARLY SCHEDULED ON TUESDAY, JUNE 9TH

JEFFERSON, LA – Garbage, recycling and bulk waste collection services will resume as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 in Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte. There will be no make-up schedule for areas that receive collection on a Monday because of the cancellation of services due to Tropical Storm Cristobal.

For residents who have garbage pick-up on Mondays, their collection will resume on Thursday, June 11, 2020. For residents scheduled for recycling or bulk waste collection on a Monday, collection will resume on Monday, June 15, 2020.

“Trash and recycling services have been continuing as normal, but we are still experiencing an increase in the amount of residential solid waste as a result of residents spending more time at home due to COVID-19. Bulk waste collection is continuing, however, we anticipate delays in service,” said Katherine F. Costanza with Jefferson Parish Environmental Affairs.

By taking the following steps, residents can help minimize delays:

· Limit the amount of pruning and tree trimming to only what is essential during hurricane season

· If utilizing a landscaping or tree removal company, please ensure that all tree debris is collected and hauled off by a licensed contractor.

If a resident notices that their tipper cart or recycling bin is missing after a storm, please check with neighbors to see if they may have the wrong can or bin for safekeeping. Any resident that cannot locate their cart or bin should contact the Department of Environmental Affairs for a replacement at (504) 731-4612.
