NEWS RELEASE

JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA

June 6, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF UNINCORPORATED JEFFERSON PARISH AND THE TOWN OF JEAN LAFITTE:

GARBAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION ON MONDAY, JUNE 8TH HAS BEEN SUSPENDED DUE TO TROPICAL STORM CRISTOBAL

JEFFERSON, LA – All curbside garbage and recycling services are cancelled this Monday, June 8, 2020 due to Tropical Storm Cristobal.

The Parish’s contracted hauler, Waste Connections, will not double back to collect households missed on Monday. Residents are asked to hold their trash and recyclables until the next scheduled collection date. If homeowners are unable to wait until their next scheduled collection date, they may drop their trash off at one of the Parish’s four drop-off sites once they reopen for business on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

Regularly scheduled trash, recycling and bulk items collection is anticipated to resume on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

In order to keep citizens safe as Tropical Storm Cristobal approaches and enable essential collection services to start as soon as the storm passes, Jefferson Parish offers the following tips to all its residential and small business customers:

· Secure all garbage and recycling containers. Place containers in a secure location away from open spaces.

· Stop all yard maintenance and tree trimming activities. Avoid placing bulky items such as furniture, tree limbs, scrap appliances, waste tires and construction debris at the curb.

· Bundle and tie down all loose trash such as tree limbs. Place these materials in a location where debris cannot become hazardous to homes and vehicles in high winds or clog storm drains.
