DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THE JEFFERSON PARISH
MEAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IS FRIDAY, MARCH 19

JEFFERSON, LA – The Jefferson Parish Meal Assistance program has provided nearly 40,000 meals to date and will continue to accept new applications until tomorrow, Friday, March 19, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. CST. Residents are encouraged to call the Jefferson Parish COVID-19 Meal Assistance Program Hotline at (504) 736-6162 or apply online at www.jeffparish.net.

Meals will be delivered to those who apply and qualify until April 11, 2021. The well-balanced meals are delivered to homes once a week frozen with instructions for heating. Meals range from pulled pork on a bun to baked chicken with a corn muffin and baked beans to chicken and sausage jambalaya with corn.

“The Jefferson Parish Meal Assistance Program started off as a huge success. The Parish has now delivered nearly 40,000 meals to residents impacted by this ongoing pandemic,” said Jefferson Parish Councilman Deano Bonano (District 2). “Enrollment is still open, and I encourage seniors to apply today if they need assistance during this economic and health crisis.”

The COVID-19 Meal Assistance Program is provided to qualifying seniors through a cost-sharing collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP).

Meals inspired by recipes from participating local restaurants will be provided to the following range of residents impacted by COVID-19:

  • Senior Citizens aged 65 or older who reside in Jefferson Parish,
  • Senior Citizens aged 60-64 who are diagnosed with COVID-19 or ordered to stay in quarantine by a doctor, or
  • Senior Citizens aged 60-64 who have mobility limitations that force them to be homebound or have underlying/high risk health conditions that make it best to practice self-quarantine.

All participants must reside in Jefferson Parish and not be receiving any other Federal or State Food Nutritional Benefits or Assistance (EBT/Food Stamps, SNAP, Meals on Wheels, etc.).
