CYRIL M. LAGVANEC TALKS ON RUSSIAN-UKRANIAN RELATIONS AT EAST BANK REGIONAL LIBRARY

JEFFERSON, LA – Cyril M. Lagvanec, PhD, the newly appointed curator of the American-Italian Research  Library inside the East Bank Regional Library, will give a lecture titled “100 years of Russian-Ukrainian Relations” at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 9.

This presentation is free of charge and open to the public.

At present, there are no diplomatic or bilateral relations between Ukraine and Russia because the two countries have been in a state of war since Feb. 24, 2022. This is not the first time the two countries have collided. Dr. Lagvanec will discuss the ties, treaties, and other tensions between the two countries in the last ten decades.

Cyril Lagvanec earned his undergraduate degree in history from Baylor University, his master’s degree in British and European History from Tulane University, and his doctoral degree in American History from Texas A&M University. Through his long career, Dr. Lagvanec has taught at Jesuit High School, Tulane, Loyola, Delgado, Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, East Carolina University, and Texas A&M.

Dr. Lagvanec will give lectures on other history topics in upcoming months, and he will help patrons who need assistance with family history research. He has been involved in various programming at the World War II Museum in New Orleans, and intends to participate in gaming programs at the library, including the popular The Heat of the Battle which focuses on tactical scenarios during the war.
