NEWS RELEASE

JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA

November 1, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF UNINCORPORATED JEFFERSON PARISH AND THE TOWN OF JEAN LAFITTE:

Curbside Storm Debris Collection Scheduled to Begin This Week

JEFFERSON, LA – As residents continue to respond to and clean-up from Hurricane Zeta, Jefferson Parish remains focused on moving as quickly as possible to meet their needs. Debris removal crews are poised to begin removing storm related debris in Jefferson Parish on Friday, November 6, 2020. A schedule of pick-up by area will be provided later this week.

Storm debris will be collected from all residences in unincorporated areas of Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte. Regular curbside garbage and recycling will continue on its regular schedule; however, damage assessment teams require sufficient time to thoroughly survey damaged areas as residents organize and move their storm debris curbside.

Jefferson Parish strongly urges residents to organize their storm debris into piles to support an efficient collection process. All residents should place storm debris curbside in the public right of way, or the area of property that extends from the street to the sidewalk. Storm debris should not be placed within four feet of mailboxes, water meters, fire hydrants or any other above-ground utility. In addition to this, storm debris should be clearly separated from regular garbage, recycling and bagged waste, which will be collected as part of the Parish’s regular garbage and recycling collection services. Debris removal crews cannot collect debris from private property and they cannot collect bagged waste or garbage placed in a 95-gallon tipper cart.

“We appreciate your patience during this time and will provide updates if there are any changes,” said Katherine Costanza with the Jefferson Parish Environmental Affairs Department.
