COUNCILMAN BYRON L. LEE HOSTS STREET DEDICATION TO UNVEIL FANNIE WATSON WAY

MARRERO, LA – On Thursday, March 11, 2021, Councilman Byron L. Lee and Jefferson Parish officials hosted a street dedication ceremony to unveil “Fannie Watson Way” in Marrero. The ceremony included the unveiling of the new street sign that will honor Mrs. Fannie “Mother” Watson, who was loved and admired by everyone in her community.

“It is my esteemed honor to commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Fannie ‘Mother’ Watson,” stated Councilman Lee, “The renaming of Chenault Street is a fitting acknowledgement of a woman who prioritized helping others and whose legacy will live on in all of those that she prayed and cared for, as well as, those who had the privilege of observing her acts of love and generosity.”

The portion of Chenault Street from the intersection of Garden Road and Marshall Drive in Marrero is now renamed “Fannie Watson Way.” According to community members, Mrs. Fannie “Mother” Watson was a remarkable human being and a mother to everyone in her neighborhood. Her generous heart and her commitment to helping others will be remembered for generations to come. A praying woman with an infectious smile, she believed and demonstrated throughout her life Acts 20:35 which states “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

The unveiling ceremony took place at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 1228 Marshall Drive in Marrero. CLICK HERE to watch a video of the full ceremony.
