
The Plan at a Glance
Purpose
The Comprehensive Plan provides a guide for policy decisions regarding growth and development in Jefferson Parish. Plan requirements include consistency between Parish decisions and the Plan, a Citizens Advisory Committee to review major changes in the Plan, and an update every five years to accommodate changing conditions and keep the Plan current.
Process
Citizen information meetings conducted in 2000
Workshops for identification of issues held in 2001
Element and Steering committee meetings for development of goals, objectives, and policies held in 2002
Preliminary drafts of plan available in March 2003
Public hearings for plan adoption conducted May 2003 through August 2003
Ongoing meetings of technical advisory committees and Citizens' Advisory Committtee for development of additional elements, subarea plans, and development regulations, as well as public hearings for their adoption
Adoption
On August 6, 2003 the Parish Council adopted Ordinance No. 21939 making the Comprehensive Plan part of the Jefferson Parish Code of Ordinances. Effective March 27, 2004, Envision Jefferson 2020 became Article 6 of Chapter 25, Planning and Development which currently contains four elements: Land Use, Transportation, Housing and Implementation.
